Vietnam - Government’s Reform Efforts
Vietnam introduces its Doi Moi (renovation) economic reform package in 1986 and since that time has systematically and continuously made legislative reforms and enacted market liberalization policies that welcome foreign investment which recently has unleashed an energized private sector and produced greater economic stability.
Vietnam - Expanding Trade
The openness of the economy (the percentage of total exports and imports over GDP) increased from 102.8% in 1999 to 141.5% in 2005. In addition to its extensive and expanding trade relations with Japan, China, and other major markets, Vietnam’s exports to North America have been growing exponentially thanks to the Bilateral Trade Agreement signed with the United States in 2001.
